Spiritual Warfare is a part of every Christian’s life. We enter into this battle the moment we accept Jesus as our personal Saviour. The enemy has only one goal: to destroy your eternal salvation for the purpose of seeing you die in sin with the penalty of eternal damnation.
But, praise be to the Lord God, He has given us the weapons for this warfare which not only protect us and others, but give us the ability to mount an offensive more powerful than the enemy can withstand. Jesus has defeated this enemy for us and the ultimate judgement is set for a time in the future.
While this judgement tarries, Christians must use their spiritual weapons for their part of the battle. Few truths have become so noticeably vibrant to the renewed Church’s life in this century as the place and power of prayer and intercessory warfare. This call in no way reduces the conviction that the Cross of Jesus Christ has accomplished all victory over the Devil, we read in (Colossians 3 :14-15 NKJV) “But above all these things put on love, which is the bond of perfection. And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to which also you were called in one body; and be thankful.” To the contrary, this order of warfare depends on what He has finished! Just as the mission to evangelise the world is founded in the complete provision of salvation, the mission to precede our evangelistic endeavour with prayer power that paves the way to the overthrow of contemporary works of darkness is founded in the blood of the Lamb. (Revelation 12:9-12).
