On the morning of the 1st of January 2019 I received this impression.
“There is a prophetic sound to the wind.”
The Lord wanted me to write down what I was hearing prophetically about “The Wind of the Holy Spirit.”
The symbol of wind, in Scripture, suggests that there are both positive and negative connotations. Wind can be frightfully powerful, as depicted by tornadoes and hurricanes. As the wind is often unpredictable and blows one-way and then changes and blows another way the next, who knows why or where or when it will blow next!
- This is a year of turbulent weather conditions for us in New Zealand.
In many ways this is how life is today, we are living in very changeable unpredictable, and unprecedented times. But as people of the Spirit, we have to know God is truly in control of our destiny and of the nations. He wants us to be adaptable, teachable and willing to be blown and directed according to the Holy Spirit’s leading.
We read in John 3:8 [Holman] “The wind blows where it pleases, [independence] and you hear its sound, but you don’t know where it comes from [unseen] or where it is going. [Invisibility] So it is with everyone born of the spirit.”
We might ask where is the wind blowing us this year? What is the Holy Spirit fulfilling in the nations of the earth? We cannot see where the ‘Wind’ comes from, and we cannot foretell where the ‘Wind’ is going. But we can see its effect on God’s people, His church, and on the nation of New Zealand.
We perceive the true Wind of the Spirit is awaking God’s people and His Church, as we read in Ephesians 5:14 Therefore He says: “Awake, you who sleep, Arise from the dead, and Christ will give you light.” As we learn to be still we will perceive the direction of the ‘Wind’ that is blowing in the nation and over His Church, and in our lives.
We will get a real sense of great faith been stirred up, holy anticipation about God moving upon us with greater awareness. We are becoming enlightened people to know Him in a deeper way. His presence is much closer to us every day; a new day of open heaven over our lives.
We know that faith is being stirred up, “So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.” (Romans 10:17)
We are distinguishing and discerning His voice more clearly. We read in Matthew 11:15 “He who has ears to hear, let him hear!” As Jesus was describing to Nicodemus what those who are born from above were like. It is a description of everyone who is born of the Spirit. We read in John 3:3 “Verily, verily, I say unto thee, except one be born anew, he cannot see the kingdom of God.”
- God wants us to SEE His kingdom more and more each day; it is about the Church revealing His kingdom. The word translated “anew” means: “from above” for Nicodemus understood it to mean a second birth.
To “SEE” the Kingdom means to possess and to enjoy it—(John 8:51; Luke 2:26)
In John 3:8 The Greek word translated as both Spirit and Wind is “Pneuma”. It is defined as, a movement of air (a gentle blast) of the wind, hence the wind itself, or breath from nostrils or mouth. Similarly, the Hebrew word for Spirit is “Ruwach” is defined as wind, breath, mind, spirit and this word is again used interchangeably for breath, wind and spirit (2 Samuel 22:16; 2 Kings 3:17).
It can be said of us that we go where He wills and where His Spirit moves us, yet we often do not know how He got us to certain places, or where we will be tomorrow. As we surrender our lives to God, we are not in control of our destiny, our lives, or even our direction – The Lord is calling us to go and fulfill our destiny, and our prophetic calling in so many different ways today.
Our Father in heaven is teaching us obedience to His Spirit. And as His Wind blows we learn that we are born to live for Him and in Him. We read in Acts 17:28 “for in Him we live and move and have our being…”
We cannot DIRECT the wind, but we can ADJUST our sails.
We must regularly assess whether we are sensitive to the Holy Spirit and His voice, whether we will always listen and also obey and choose to be flexible to which direction He wishes us to go at any given point in time. We need to be very alert today, as we cannot be deceived by the frequency of a wicked wind of false doctrine. (Sent out by occultists and deceitful men, see 1 Timothy 1:10)
We read in Ephesians 4:14-15 “We should no longer be children, tossed to and fro and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, in the cunning craftiness of deceitful plotting, 15 but, speaking the truth in love, may grow up in all things into Him who is the head—Christ—.”
A Time of Restoration
In Ezekiel 36:25-27 “Then I will sprinkle clean water on you, and you shall be clean; I will cleanse you from all your filthiness and from all your idols. 26 I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; I will take the heart of stone out of your flesh and give you a heart of flesh. 27 I will put My Spirit within you and cause you to walk in My statutes, and you will keep My judgments and do them.”
- We are in a time of cleansing; the sprinkling of clean water, it is a ritual and the first step of inward restoration (Hebrews 10:22).
- The second step is a new heart and spirit. (Psalm 51:10)
We need to understand that God will bring about true transformation among His people by renewing our minds and hearts and filling them with His Spirit. Today we need to welcome the exchange of heart and spirit God is offering us. A time to yield to God’s Spirit and receive His law of renewed life in our hearts to be truly transformed.
There are four winds of awaking for us:
The number Four is a symbol of completeness as (four winds; four directions; four corners) these represent the four quarters of the Earth and God’s omnipresence. The four winds are metaphorically the four different corners of the earth (North, South, East, West).
The four winds speak of an opportunity to give life (Ezekiel 37:9) or to scatter, uproot or destroy people, empires, kingdoms, as in (Daniel 7:2, 8:8, 11:4).
God asks the prophet the question, “can these bones live?” Ezekiel answers, “O Lord God, You know.” (Ezekiel 37: 3). Today we need that same confidence about God performing miraculous deeds. God says, “Prophesy to these bones, and say to them, O dry bones, HEAR the word of the Lord!” (v. 4)
There is a famine of the word of God today- God’s prophets must speak out.
Surely God will cause breath to enter into you, and you shall live. (v. 5)
I will put sinews on you, and bring flesh upon you, cover you with skin and put breath in you and you shall live. (v. 6) The fourfold list of: sinews, flesh, skin, and breath. (A symbol of completeness)
God instructed Ezekiel to: “Prophesy to the breath, prophesy, son of man, say to the breath of life. “Thus says the Lord GOD: “Come from the four winds, O breath, and breathe on these slain, that they may live.” (Ezekiel 37:9).
God is in the process of releasing His Spirit like a mighty Wind out of the treasures of heaven. The time is fast approaching in that God’s power will blow as never before. I hear a sound not a wind but like the sound of wind the unseen power of the Spirit. God is moving upon His people and upon the nation that will be humbled by the Lord and a mantle of prayer will be released over us.
There are two characteristics of wind.
- There are the physical characteristics of wind. (Speed and direction, for example, a southerly wind starts in the south and blows north).
- There are the Spiritual characteristics of wind. (The Spirit is likened to the “wind that blows where it will,” and described as “a sound from heaven like the rush of a mighty wind”.)
The Bible speaks of the four winds: North Wind, South Wind, East Wind, and the West Wind.
The four directions have a spiritual significance for this age.
- The North wind declares a story of cleansing, purifying, washing, sanctification.
- The South wind declares a renewal, revival, and restoration.
- The East winds are symbolic of chastening, discipline, and correction.
- The West wind blows with God’s rich blessings and encouragement.
1. The North Wind: Represents cleansing, a purging of impurities; a washing
In Jeremiah 1:13-14 “And the word of the LORD came to me the second time, saying, “What do you see?” And I said, “I see a boiling pot, and it is facing away from the NORTH.” 14 Then the LORD said to me: “Out of the NORTH calamity shall break forth on all the inhabitants of the land.” Jeremiah shows the power of the north wind.
He sees a – Pot – meaning the Babylonian army, who would besiege Jerusalem as a fire plays around the pot when it is to be made to boil. North – Indicating from whence their misery should come, namely, from Chaldea, which lay north from Jerusalem.
In Jeremiah 3:12 “Go and proclaim these words toward the NORTH, and say: ‘Return backsliding Israel,’ says the LORD; ‘I will not cause My anger to fall on you. For I am merciful,’ says the LORD; ‘I will not remain angry forever.”
- Our instruction is to preach God’s Word to the north, where revival has been promised to come.
Go and proclaim these words toward the north, and say, Return, you backsliding Israel, says the LORD; and I will not cause My anger to fall upon you: for I am merciful, says the LORD, and I will not keep My anger forever.
2. The South Wind: Represents Renewal-Revival!
In Songs of Solomon 4:16 we read “Awake, O north wind, and come O SOUTH! Blow upon my garden that its spices may flow out. Let my beloved come to his garden and eat its pleasant fruits.”
Solomon’s love song; To the Groom [Jesus] is espoused to his bride [The Church] — they stand in a withered garden — The bride [Church] senses the nearness of her coming groom [Jesus] she is ashamed of the dry, withered garden. The groom [Jesus] speaks to the north wind and then the south wind.
In Mark 4:41 “And they feared exceeding, and said one to another, what manner of man is this, that even the wind and the sea obey his voice!”
They feared the One who could command the wind and the waves at will, as well as drive out demons and all diseases and speak mysteries in parables. God does not want us to fear in these times of uncertainty but grow confident in our apprehension and comprehension of Jesus Christ.
There is so much for us to learn today to grow in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. The Spirit is saying to us ‘open your eyes and heart to the majesty of Jesus in our day’.
- This is a time of renewal of revival and an outpouring of God’s Spirit.
3. The East Wind: Represents Chastening; a correction by punishment; suffering; a disciplining.
Pharaoh had a dream of the force of the east wind.
In Genesis 41:23 “Then behold, seven heads, withered, thin, and blighted by the east wind, sprang up after them.”
The East wind is peculiarly destructive, used by God to chasten because it comes through the parched deserts often destroying vast numbers of people. When the east wind advances, its approach is indicated by redness in the air.
The only means of preservation from its noxious influence is to lie flat, [humbling yourself] with the face upon the ground until the blast is over. Camels and other animals instinctively perceive its approach and bury their mouths and nostrils in the ground. It rarely lasts more than seven or eight minutes, but is so lethal, that it instantly suffocates those who are unfortunate enough to inhale it.
In Genesis 41:27 “And the seven thin and ugly cows which came up after them are seven years, and the seven empty heads blighted by the east wind are seven years of famine.”
- There are lean and barren years ahead, years of famine.
As we read in Genesis 41:14-16; 30-33; 37-41.
14 “Then Pharaoh sent and called Joseph, and they brought him quickly out of the dungeon; and he shaved, changed his clothing, and came to Pharaoh. 15 And Pharaoh said to Joseph, “I have had a dream, and there is no one who can interpret it. But I have heard it said of you that you can understand a dream, to interpret it.” 16 So Joseph answered Pharaoh, saying, “It is not in me; God will give Pharaoh an answer of peace.”
30 “But after them, seven years of famine will arise, and all the plenty will be forgotten in the land of Egypt; and the famine will deplete the land. 31 So the plenty will not be known in the land because of the famine following, for it will be very severe. 32 And the dream was repeated to Pharaoh twice because the thing is established by God and God will shortly bring it to pass. “ 33 Now therefore, let Pharaoh select a discerning and wise man, and set him over the land of Egypt.” 37 “So the advice was good in the eyes of Pharaoh and in the eyes of all his servants. 38 And Pharaoh said to his servants, “Can we find such a one as this, a man in whom is the Spirit of God?” 39 Then Pharaoh said to Joseph, “Inasmuch as God has shown you all this, there is no one as discerning and wise as you. 40 You shall be over my house, and all my people shall be ruled according to your word; only in regard to the throne will I be greater than you.” 41 And Pharaoh said to Joseph, “See, I have set you over all the land of Egypt.”
- In these times God will give His wisdom to the church and we will see a great harvest and blessing for God’s people. A salvation of a nation from years of famine and lean years.
- I see other nations and New Zealand entering into a time of financial barrenness!
The prophets are also warned – Jonah was chastised by the east wind for prejudice, unforgiveness, and disobedience.
In Jonah 4:8 “And it happened, when the sun arose, that God prepared a vehement east wind; and the sun beat on Jonah’s head so that he grew faint. Then he wished death for himself, and said, “It is better for me to die than to live.”
The Lord uses the East wind:
In Exodus 10:13 “So Moses stretched out his rod over the land of Egypt, and the LORD brought an east wind on the land all that day and all that night. When it was morning, the east wind brought the locusts.”
- Will we be devoured by the locusts of today?
4. The West Winds: Represent God’s blessings!
- The West wind carried away the locusts until none are left!
In Exodus 10:19 “And the LORD turned a very strong west wind, which took the locusts away and blew them into the Red Sea. There remained not one locust in all the territory of Egypt.”
- This is a season where God will do unusual miracles on behalf of His people and these signs will be seen by the world as the favour of God on His people.
In Joshua 8:12-13 “ and set them in ambush between Bethel and Ai, on the west side of the city. 13 And when they had set the people, all the army that was on the north of the city, and its rear guard on the west of the city,”
- God will set ambushes against the enemy and when a believer is attacked the church will rise up in support and victory will be assured.
In Luke 12:54 We are to discern the time. Then He [Jesus] also said to the multitudes, “Whenever you see a cloud rising out of the west, immediately you say, ‘A shower is coming’; and so it is.”
- We are living in times of abundant spiritual rain and showers of blessings, but on the other hand times of great testing and increased temptation. The enemy wants us to compromise God’s word and ways. But today we need the sword of the spirit in our hand and mouth as never before. Many today will be persecuted for righteousness sake.
In summary: I’m saying the wind of the Spirit is blowing upon us, in a different way this year, we need to be more alert of the quick and frequent changes that are coming this year. Just as the wind changes direction so will the political climate and the spiritual climate change quickly?
We are to become more sensitive and obedient to God’s leading. To know that the times we live in have grown exceedingly evil. That we are responsible for the spiritual breakthrough of our families and churches and to see cities redeemed and our nation won over for the Lord Jesus.
To become strong in our Lord Jesus Christ, that we seek His Face as never before and know His redeeming power. To know that His might is working is us, and that He would grant us according to the riches of His glory, to strengthen us with His might through His Spirit in the inner man.
